Importance Of Store Fixtures In Retail Marketing

By

Retailers at large undermine the value of store fixtures not realizing that it can help in creating a good, valuable and returning customer base. Some retailers even have the notion that those free stands that they can get from their vendors will make excellent display choices to showcase their wares, without knowing that customers seldom look at stands and display units that are sponsored. It is not just about the quality of the shelf or rack in which this is displayed but also about the syncing of the display system with the rest of the décor in the store.
Presentation As Important As The Product Mix
Presentation is the missing link that ordinary retailers have been unsuccessful at. In fact, it is as important as the product mix that a retail store offers to its customers. If the presentation is a failure even the best product mix will not do any good in the retail business. Retailers who buy different product mixes do so after they pay a visit to trade shows, where the vendors of those shows present their products in the best possible fashion that instigates the retailers to order the same for their stores. When it comes to duplication of the same, many fail to do so, not thinking that the same applies to their walk-in customers as well.
Visual Impressions Last Long
Anything that is pleasing to the eye, last long in the minds of customers. Therefore, top priority must be given to presentation. Products that are piled up aren't a good sight to see and that would be the last choice for customers to choose from. Neatly arranged and visibly appealing organization attracts customers to the product. Additional care to be given in the case of special products and offers that are put up form time to time.
Badly arranged products, apart from giving a clumsy look can go unsold which is not what a retailer wants. It is pertinent to remember that consumers cannot buy what they cannot see. Products need to be arranged in such a manner that it offers maximum visibility while being pleasing to the eyes. Store fixtures help in creating a visual impression on the customer's mind of the product on display. It is also important to have the right mix of fixtures that can be related to the right tools that are needed to fix an engine.
Products need to be arranged in such a manner that the short time that a customer spends as the store he or she is attracted to it making them to buy it. With internet swoops becoming the order of the day, the number of customers who walk into a shop are becoming lesser. Therefore it is extremely necessary to ensure that the right fixtures are in the right place, so that the walk-in customer gets what he/she wants and walk away happy.
Establishing The Retail Brand
The base fixture style must talk more about the retail brand, the store and must express the ambience that the retailer has in mind. The choice of materials for racks must solely depend on the ambience that is planned. For an outdoor feel, it is best to use wood, for a techno feel, steel is recommended, a combination of both can also be used based on the product lines that are to be displayed on the racks. Fixtures convey the message, offer a feel and create a consistency to get the undivided attention of the customers. Customers need to feel comfortable and silently appreciated for being in this retail store and not in the competitor's. Correct fixtures offer that comfort and ambience where the customers feel appreciated for being there.
It's All About Change
The hot design today may not be so tomorrow, this rule applies to everything that comes our way, fixtures are no exception. The merchandising world is all about change - fixtures need to adapt to that too. Hence, it becomes pertinent to purchase fixtures that are flexible and can be adapted to changes within the store. Having the store on wheels is one way, mobile racking solutions enable for quick change in look without actually doing anything big. People are drawn to something new and old customers can peep into the store, invariably leading to an increase in the sales.
Point of Purchase Vendor Fixtures
Vendor fixtures at the point of purchase become a necessity but it is very important not to overdo them as it will not solve the purpose. Vendor's fixtures need to stand out from the rest therefore too many of the same can dilute it. Vendor fixtures that are in contrast to the base look of the store can be used, again, in the right dilution. It is important to understand that a POP fixture is more of an advertising campaign and the fixture must do just that and nothing more!
Store Fixtures - The Transport Vehicle
Fixtures need to be in the right mix, too much variety can put off the customer. For a clothing store, rich wood tones against the walls and metal ones in the performance area, can be the ideal mix that ensures that there is a good blend of both. Websites like www.donracks.co.in can be used to check out the different kinds of retail fixtures available in the present day. Store fixtures are good investments and these are the transport vehicles that help to take the retail business forward, and must be recognized and seen as such by retailers.

Why Does Everyone Hate Walmart? I Love Walmart!

By
I don’t get it. Why do so many people hate Walmart? I’m actually a big fan of Walmart. They offer some of the most competitive prices for nearly… everything! Walmart is the single biggest employer in the United States. It employees well over 1 million workers, and gives them the option to opt into a health care program. Wal-Mart pays an average full-time hourly worker of $10.11 an hour, according to independent expert statistical analysis*. That’s nearly double federal minimum wage of $5.15 an hour. Let’s analyze Walmart a bit further by looking at the usual complaints and responding to them.
Complaint: Walmart drives out competition! They’re evil!
My Response: Walmart beats the competition. They offer the same product at a cheaper price. That means they are more efficient then their competitors. Since when was being successful a crime? Let’s look at a scenario. Let’s pretend YOU made a new website. Let’s say your new website competes with Google. Your new website is amazingly efficient, user friendly, and always gets the best search results. You start making millions of dollars. Your new website is absolutely phenomenal. Whenever someone searches something, they always find exactly what they’re looking for. You managed to do this because you spent countless months developing your new search engine. Your new website also gets praise from the entire country for being such a resourceful website. However, due to the result of your new success, you managed to bankrupt both Google and Yahoo by offering cheaper rates. Did you do anything wrong? Absolutely not! You created a BETTER product then your competitors, and in result, they had to close down, because they couldn’t adapt to their new competition. This is exactly what Walmart did. They created an extremely efficient method of getting products and putting them on the shelf at low costs.
Complaint: Walmart strong-arms its suppliers for the lowest possible prices.
My Response: Why should Walmart pay the same price for a TV as Joe’s electronics? Walmart purchases 1,000,000 TVs at once, while Joe’s electronics purchases 5. The truth is that suppliers love Walmart. (source below). Why wouldn’t they? When you talk about transactions, you have to understand basic economics. Whenever a transaction occurs, both parties always benefit. If that wasn’t the case, the transaction would not have occurred. Lets look at the most basic example. When I purchase a gallon of milk for $2 at 7-Eleven, I clearly want the milk more then I want the 2$. The 7-Eleven clearly wants my 2$ instead of the gallon of milk. Whenever Walmart needs to restock, they contact their suppliers and negotiate a price. If both parties agree, the order is fulfilled. If the supplier cannot agree on a price with Walmart, the supplier has the option to decline. Walmart will then seek a different supplier to get the order filled. If no supplier will fulfill Walmart’s order, Walmart will most likely raise its offer and try to negotiate once again with its suppliers. Is this penny pinching method evil? Of course not! Walmart is trying to get the best deal possible. Since when was that ever a despicable act? A consumer usually checks the price on higher tag items at multiple retailers before making a purchase, why shouldn’t Walmart do the same thing?
Complaint: Walmart is a monopoly!
My Response: Walmart is not a monopoly. Anyone can compete with Walmart. If you want to talk about monopolies, take a look the United States Postal Service or PSEG. If you compete with the Postal Service on non urgent first class mail you will get locked up. You won’t get locked up for competing with Walmart. Walmart currently has fewer than 10% market share for retail in the United States. Hewlett Packard (HP) currently has a 16.9% worldwide market share in the personal computer market, why aren’t they labeled a monopoly? Intuit, the maker of QuickBooks, has a 73.9% of the accounting software market, and they aren’t criticized nearly as much as Walmart is. Where do the complaints really come from? The consumers? No way! Walmart serves over 100 million customers each week. They wouldn’t keep coming back if their experience wasn’t satisfactory.

Products That Every General Retail Store Should Keep in Stock

By
If you are the owner of a retail store, then you probably often take stock of what you have in store, what sells and what doesn't. There are certain products that most people purchase regularly from a general retail store. That means that you need to ensure that you stock these items in order to close the sale.
Which products should every general retail store keep in stock?
Toothpaste. As simple as it sounds, a general retailer should have sufficient stock of toothpaste. There should be a variety of brands, from Colgate to Aquafresh. Everyone has to brush their teeth and many times people go on holiday or business trips then they forget to pack toothpaste. In such cases they will quickly run to the nearest general retailer to buy toothpaste. If you have their favourite brand in store, they will buy it then and there. Also keep stock of toothbrushes, just in case.
Variety of Snacks. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, customers will come in to the store for one thing but will leave with more. Everybody loves snack items whether it is a chocolate or a pack of chips, you need to keep a variety of quick snack products in your store. Preferably near the cash register where the customer has to wait in the queue. This is good time to sell to the customer's snack desire as they will make the impulse decision while standing in line to pay.
Shampoo and Conditioner. Keeping these items in stock will keep your customers coming back. Many people don't stock up on these products and only realise that they need more when they run out of shampoo and conditioner. Then they run to a reasonably priced retailer to make their purchase.
Deodorant and Roll On. Deodorising products are always required by customers. Keep an assortment of sprays and roll-on's for male and female customers. Each customer will have their own preferred scents. If you have it in stock, they will easily make the decision to buy it.
Body Lotion. If a female customer comes in to your store to buy deodorant and roll on, they will most likely want to purchase body lotion to complete their cleaning regiment.
If you keep these items in stock, you will not only sell the product that the customer came in for, but you may even sell additional products such as snacks, sweets and chocolates or any other enticing product.

Rite Aid Q2 beats Street; cuts outlook on lower reimbursements, generics

September 18, 2014 | By Marianne Wilson

Camp Hill, Pa. -- Rite Aid Corp. on Thursday reported better-than-expected profit and sales for the second quarter. But the chain cut its full-year profit outlook, citing lower reimbursement rates and anticipated lower profitability from new generics and generic drugs that recently lost exclusivity.
Rite Aid’s second-quarter profit surged to $129.2 million, up from $32.8 million in the year-earlier period,
Revenue totaled $6.52 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Same-store sales increased 4.1%, topping estimates of 3.3%
“In the second quarter, our team of dedicated Rite Aid associates worked together to execute our strategy and deliver results that reflect growth in net income and Adjusted EBITDA and significant increases in same-store sales and prescription count,” said Rite Aid chairman and CEO John Standley. “Heading forward, while we believe that our key initiatives will continue to drive top-line growth, we are revising our guidance based on lower than anticipated pharmacy margin in the second half of fiscal 2015.”
Rite Aid expects full-year revenue in the range of $26 billion to $26.3 billion.
